On Friday, March 14, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., Dr. John Henry Griffin Council 2293 joined Archbishop Neale Council 2279 in the 3rd annual Catholic Bee.
The event was held in the gymnasium of Archbishop Neale School. A total of 36 4th and 5th grade students from Archbishop Neale, St. Peter's, and St. Mary's, Bryantown, Schools competed.
Father Scott Holmer, Chaplain, Archbishop Neale Council 2279, was the moderator. Judges included Brothers Brad Howard, District Deputy; Ray Dunn, Deputy Grand Knight, Dr. John Henry Griffin Council 2293; and Brother Marc Locco, Recorder Dr. John Henry Griffin Council 2293.
After nearly 3 hours, and 460 questions, Ariana Marrero,St. Mary's School, earned a first place victory. In second place was Joshua Nguyen, St. Mary's School. In third place was Joshua Doughty, St. Peter's School. The winners were awarded $75, $50, & $25 iTunes gift cards, respectively.

On Saturday 6 September, Grand Knight Stephen Stiles, wife Susan and brother knight John Hayden refinished the hand railings leading to the Friendshio Room just in time for the Annual Church Dinner. Congratulations on a job well done!
Vocations Event at Sacred Heart Church
On Sunday, 2 November 2014, at the 11:30 A.M. Mass, a group of 40 seminarians and faculty from St. John Paul II Seminary assembled with parishioners. Msgr. Robert Panke celebrated the Mass with concelebrants, brother Knights, Fathers Robert Buchmeier, pastor; and Scott Holmer, Parochial Vicar. Assisting were brother Knights, Deacon Albert Graham and altar server Daniel Bearden.
Brother Knight, seminarian Greg Portner, from our parish, spoke about his discerning to become a seminarian.
After Mass the seminarians, priests, deacons and Catholic men interested in discerning a vocation to the priesthood, attended a lunch in the Friendship Room.
The photo of the standing seminarians, including Father Buchmeier and PGK Mark Shutters, are all members of the Knights of Columbus and are supported by the Vocations Support Program (RSVP).
Brother Knight seminarian Christopher Huebner recently became a Knight in the O'Boyle Council in Washington DC who will now provide the Vocations Support, leaving our council to adopt another seminarian.
Safe Nights at Sacred Heart Church, started on Sunday 25 January with the unloading of cots and personal items for 50 homeless men, women and children of Charles County and placing them in the Friendship Room by brother knights.
On Friday 30 January, from 5:45Am to 7 AM, brother knights provided a breakfast (pancakes, sausages, fruit, pastries, milk, coffee and juices) for 50 people. Special thanks to brother Pete Czupryna and his team for doing this.
On Sunday, 1 February 2015, from 11 AM to 2 PM, a group of brother Knights gathered to move the Safe Nights recipients belongings from Sacred Heart Church, Friendship Room to the Life Stream Church of the Nazarene located at Leonardtown Road, Waldorf, MD. Brother Mike Mohler provided the truck and the trailer.
Thanks to all who helped and especially to brother Hugh Gardiner for coordinating this project.
Father Robert Buchmeier, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, was pleased with this show of "love" for our brothers and sister" in Christ.

2015 Annual Seminarian Picnic
The Sacred Heart Church Annual Seminarian Picnic, hosted by Archbishop Neale Council #2279, took place on Wednesday, 29 July 2015, from 4 to 8pm, at the home of Past Grand Knight Michael and Tina Raymond. 50 Archdiocese of Washington seminarians attended along with brother knights, their families, priests and deacons. Lots of good food, drinks and fellowship. The seminarians expressed their thanks and said they are looking forward to next year.
On Sunday evening, 30 August 2015, a group of men gathered in the Friendship Room to enjoy a steak dinner with Father Larry Swink after which he explained some passages from the bible.
This meeting will be followed by regular monthly/weekly meetings /activities that will compliment other parish activities and groups by providing additional spiritual growth.
